Meet Chris and Nora Gordon, owners

Big River Yoga started as a sparkle in our eye in 2010 and we are proud to offer quality yoga that inspires and uplifts. We like to think we make a pretty great team and hope you also feel the warmth, dedication, and love we put into Big River Yoga to make it an OM away from home. We are residents of the Seward neighborhood and are committed to making our community a better place for all.

We love yoga. We love feeling our best. We love community. You are part of that vision.

with love + gratitude,

Chris and Nora Gordon

Yoga is a catalyst for transformation

We believe yoga can be a great connector and catalyst for transformation. Yoga is a harnessing of energy through skillful action to align and integrate your body, mind and heart with consciousness, love, and a “oneness” that emanates through everything.

We have deep respect for the lineage of teachers who have come before us and the cultures from which the practice comes. We are grateful this practice is available to us and we humbly pass the teaching on to our students.

Chanting the Shanti Mantra

At the beginning of Chris' yoga classes we chant the Shanti mantra. This mantra evokes a sacred space of peace and learning.

Om Saha naa vavatu
Saha nau bhunaktu
Saha viiryam karavaa vahai
Tejas vinaa vadhita mastu
ma vidvishaa vahaihi
Om shanti, shanti, shanti

May we together be protected
May we together be nourished
May we work together with great energy
May our study reveal the light of wisdom within
May there be harmony among us
Om peace, peace, peace

Big River is a welcoming and excellent yoga community. I am relatively new to yoga and the instructors have been incredibly patient and instructive. There are all types of people at the studio, which I also really appreciate. If you’re an expert or a beginner to yoga, Big River is the place for you.
